About Our Care Coordinator

Our Care Coordinator, Jayne Sawyer, is dedicated to helping provide the highest quality of Christian Science nursing care in a home setting. The Care Coordinator handles the scheduling and administrative tasks which allow the nurse to be totally free to attend to the needs of the patient.

Jayne graduated from Arden Wood Christian Science Nurses training school in 1984. She has had many years of experience in Visiting Nursing, Private-duty and Christian Science nursing facility management. She also helped to establish a Christian Science home nursing service in Hawaii. Jayne lives with her family in Southern California.

What is Jacob’s Ladder?

Jacob’s Ladder is a nationwide registry of Christian Science private-duty nurses. The Care Coordinator assists individuals in need of nursing care to locate and schedule nurses to provide in-home care through our up-to-date registry. Our service is an additional resource to the listings of nurses found in the Christian Science Journal.

Jacob’s Ladder is designed to help those individuals who prefer to remain in the comfort of their own home where they can be assisted and supported by a Christian Science nurse. Spiritual love that brings healing is at the heart of Christian Science nursing.

Jacob’s Ladder accepts cases where a Christian Science Journal-listed practitioner is giving regular metaphysical treatment for healing. Christian Science nurses do not diagnose, administer medications or provide physical therapy.

How we started

Jacob’s Ladder began in Los Angeles in 2004 as a Christian Science home nursing service primarily serving Southern California. Jayne Sawyer, Care Coordinator, spent many years working as a Visiting nurse, private-duty nurse and Christian Science nursing facility supervisor. Over time she listened earnestly to the needs of both patients and families, who often found it challenging to find available private-duty nurses and arrange for in-home care. She observed there was a great need for a service that could help bring nursing need and supply together for mutual good. Jacob’s Ladder was born of a desire to meet this need.

Within the first year we began receiving calls from many other states requesting our services. We now have an expanded registry of nurses nationwide and are able to accommodate most requests for Christian Science nursing care anywhere in the United States. When a local nurse is unavailable, many of our out-of-state nurses are available to fly-in.

What is a Christian Science Nurse?

A Christian Science nurse is defined in the Christian Science Church Manual as:
“A member of The Mother Church who represents himself or herself as a Christian Science nurse shall be one who has a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice, who thoroughly understands the practical wisdom necessary in a sick room, and who can take proper care of the sick.”

Our nurses are spiritually prepared and professionally trained to provide nursing care tailored to meet the need of the individual. They bring the light of joy, the tenderness of love, the harmony of order, the beauty of peace as well as patience, understanding and wisdom into each home they enter. Christian Science nurses who have registered with our service adhere to the highest standards of Christian Science nursing, both ethically and professionally, and have provided excellent references from their current nursing practice. We have nurses available at different skill levels and endeavor to match the need to the nurse. Being comfortable and compatible with those working in your home is of utmost importance and we strive to make sure that all are completely satisfied.
